The Postmaetor-General proposes to connect by telephone Newcastle, Goulbourn, and Bathurst with Sydney, a 4 " a cost of £20,000. The service ig to be available to the public on the bureau system. The Government decided to make provision for Lady Parkes, and the younger children until permanent proposals for their welfare are submitted to Parliament. The Delegates Board resolved to submit the question whether tlie whole strike dispute be referred to arbitration. The Board refused the offer of Brown, owjier of the New Lambton Colliery to leave miners at work, but will refer the matter to the District Lodge. Melbourne, May 6. At the enquiry, Campbell of Adelaide, gave evidence to the effect that no part of the steamer Wendouree was m such a condition as to warrant him declaring' that she was unsea* worthy. What were said to be cracks m the boiler were merely laminations. Brisbane, May 7. Portfolios have been re arranged. The Hon. J. F. G-. Foxton becomes Minister of Lands, Hun. A. J. Thynne Minister of Agriculture and Postmaster-General, Hon. R. Philp Minister of Railways and Mines, Hon. B. H. Dairy mple Minister of Public Works and Eduoation. The Hon. A. H. Barlow, who resigned the portfolio of Minister of Lands, remains a member of the Executive.
