Mr Kelly, a resident of Ballarat, is the inventor of a new torpedo, whioh he claims may be launched as a projectile through air or under water, and cannot be interfered with by the ship's protecting nets. Mrs Kilpatrick has obtained a verdict for £790 against Hnddart, Parker and Co, for the loss of her husband, an engineer, who was drowned by the foundering of the Alert. At the previons trial she was awarded £600, but the defendants appealed, with the result mentioned, At the half-yearly meeting of the Royal Bank of Australia, the balancesheet showed that the net profits amounted to £2030, whiob, with the accrued balance of £17,300, has been carried forward pending the readjustment of the Bank's capital account.
