[TOUTED PRES3 ASBOOIWIOHt] Sydney, September 18. Mr J. C. Fitzpatrick, who was returned for Rylstone at the general election, has been unseated. The Elections Committee reported that after over 200 votes rendered informal by gross negligence of the election officials had been disallowed, the voting resulted m a tie. As it is too late for the returning officer to record his vote, a new election is rendered necessary. September 19. The Legislative Assembly passed the Land Tax and Income Tax Bills through committee without amendment. An attempt to reduce the Land Tax to a halfpenny was defeated. The Loan Bill, providing for the repayment of loans, passed all stages. In the Assembly, papers m reference to Mr Eddy's engagement were laid on the table. Should he accept engagement for a further term of seven years, at three thousand per annum, with the right to resign at any time by giving six months' notice, he will withdraw his claim for arrears m respect to the promise of the former Govern ment to give him an extra thousand a year for his last two years' term. .The Premier stated that at Me Eddy's repeated request the question of increasing •his salary will not be submitted to Parliament. September 20. The Land and Income Tax Bills have passed the Legislative Assembly. The Loan Bill, based on the Public Works Estimates, passed through Committee, and, should no deadlock occur with the Council, it is anticipated the session will close at the latter part of November. Adelaide, September 19. The Bill providing for the reduction of the Governor's salary from £5000 to £4000 passed through committee m the Legislative Assembly without amendment. Melbourne, September 19. The Railway Board's report shows the total net loss annually upon nonpayirg lines is a quarter of a million, of which suburban lines are responsible for £25,000. They suggest a further possible saving of £365,000 a year.
