BANNER COMPETITION.
Tng fixture arranged for Saturday, Koromiko v. Marlborough, fell through, the country team failing to turn up. The majority of the team rolled up iu Picton to watch the Junior Cup match, in which they had a great interest, as their last chance of winning the cup lav in the possibility of Awarua defeating or playing a draw with Waitohi. It was a treat to listen to the vigor* ous barracking of the Koromiko men for the Awaruas and the counterdemonstrations of the Kctonian partisans. The rival factions contended with unabated vigor until toward the end of the second spell, when Picton scored a try behind the goal posts and then the yellow and black contingent gave one mighty yell that awoke the echoes of Esson's Valley, while the "party from the bush" (to quote the expression made use of by one of their number) " shrunk till they could have crawled through the smallest hole in the hedge wi hout touching either side."
