JUNIOR CUP.

WAITOHI V. AWARUA. The match between these teams was one of the hardest-fought contests of the season. It was "a dingdong go" from start to finish, the Waitonis eventually winning by 5 points to nil. W. Baillie got over the line, and T. Baillie converted the try to a goal. The Awaruas played a good forward game (some of their dribbling rushes being a treat to watch) but did not give their backs a chance. The result of this was that in the latter part of the second spell (playing up-hill and against; the wind) the forwards were fagged, and once broke up in a scrum very badly. Baillie snapped up the ball in a twinkling and caught the backs nappiug. For the winners, W. Baillie, isll, and £. Blake among the backs, and France, Cribb and B. Bldke in the Torwarde, did good work, though tue latter's off-side tactics cost his side a number of free kicks. The Awarua forwards played splendidly to a man, though Fuller, Neal, Chaytor and Keating were specially prominent. As beforementioned, their backs had little to do. O'Dwyer and Wooley put in a few useful runs, but most of the time the backs were mere spectators of the game. Messrs H. Howard and F. Ourtis acted as touch-line judges, and Mr G. Browne as referee. As the result of this match, the Waitohis have practically won the Junior Cup. They have still one match unplayed, against Reuwick, but it is doubtful whether the latter team will take the field.
