MINING LEASES. [UNITID JBEBB ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, June 28. TLe Auckland Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association exhibition comprises 620 birds, Owing to the representations sent to the Government re companies formed with mining leases, a tele gram has been received m Auckland from the Minister of Mines to the effect that while the Warden must see the law is not evaded m the case of purely speculative leases, he will [ have discretionary power to grant reasonable protection when satisfied that the ground will be taken with a bonafide intention of working it, and the necessary steps for commencing operations being pushed forward with due despatch. Dukhdin, Juce 28. More or less rain fell during the day, but at night the showers were very heavy ; and it is feared floods may follow. Up to the present, about £1600 has been subscribed for the Unemployed Belief Fund.
