FOOTBALL.
All the football fixtures of Saturday were postponed on account of the wet weather^ As some of the Awaruas have found a cause for dissatisfaction m the action of the Postponement Committee it may be as well to explain that the postponement was made principally for their very benefit. After inspecting the ground during the morning No. 1 member of that Committee thought the match should be postponed, No. 2 did not think so ; and when the opinion of No. 3, who was out of town, was obtained through the telephone and that the match should be played, it was so late m the day that No. 2 changed his opinion on the consideration that the Awaruas would be seriously handicapped by such a short notice for the production of two t teams. The final decision of the Committee was communicated to the Secretary of the Awarua Club so that any uncertainty might be dispelled ; but nevertheless, quite unexpectedly, both the country teams came into town to play their respective matches. It is true that m any other - town m New Zealand such comparatively good weather would not have been allowed to stop the matches, but the Awaruas can hardly blame the Committee, especially when it is remembered that only a few days ago they wrote to the Secretary of the Rugby Union threatening to withdraw from the cup contest if the match m which their defaulters played was not awarded to them m accordance with their win, and the Union has not yet reversed its decision.
