THE TARANAKI HIGHWAYMAN.
HIS MODUS OPERAND!. [UNITED FBESS ASSOCIATION.] New Pi/xmotjth, 3nly 23. The police have found out how the highwayman has managed to escape bo often before being caught. He has been very cunning m the way he went about his work, as the following will show : — A boy found an overcoat, a pah of dungaree trousers, a soft hat, and a spur, m b yard adjoining Cottier's Hotel. It would appear that the highwayman got into the rear of the hotel, stripped off his overcoat, dungaree trousere, and hat, whioh covered his uniform, and then went m by the baok way to the hotel, so that no one saw him until he entered the door. Had he been successful ho would have gone back to where ho had stripped, would have put on hi& trousers and overcoat again, and appeared amongst the crowd. This is what he most; have done on a former occasion, when thaWhite Hart Hotel was bailed up, as it has now been proved that Wallath was amongst, the crowd a few minutes after the highway* man had left the White Hart. On that occasion he stated m the crowd that if ha found the highwayman he had two pistofa on him. On another occasion when the* highwayman scare was on, a lady asked! liobert Wallath, the highwayman, to t&ka her sister home, as she was frightened of the highwayman. He did so, and was talking of the highwayman all the way, saying what he would do if he caught hJuj, The End is at Hand. — Before w& finish :he season, we have to inform the publics off Blenheim and the neighborhood that we lave just received the followiDg too late for is to hold over, we will therefore let the rhole go at a quarter tb.e original cost Hie line of dress goods which we offer is he largest stoctwe hive ever bought, and ye have no hesitation m saying that for [uality and design there has never been mything to compare with them m thia :olony.
