AMALGAMATION OF OFFICERS (united press association.) Wellington, October 14. The Ministers have decided to give effect to an arrangement foras'.mdowed m the Public Works Statement for the amalgamation of the .Marine Department with the Publio Works Depprt-aent. The Publio Works Department is to take over all the functions of the Marine Dsparfcment m regard to the construction and maintenance of lighthouses and harbour works, and inspfiation of machinery and steamers. All other duties of the Marine Department such as the examination of masters and mates, etc. , will be transferred to the Customs. Mr H. J. H. Blow is to be oonfirmed m tho position of Under Secretary for Public Works, the responsibilities of which he has held for some time past. There will be some amount of alteration m tho official positions m the amalgamated Department.
