AN UNSATISFAOTOEY DECISION. [UNITED PEES 3 ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, June 9. . Justice Denniston gave judgment m the Sydenham licensing case to-day. After disposing of the technicalities with regard to the legality of the Returning Officer he said as there would no doubt be an appeal be would make an order restraining the defendants from refusing licenses to the premises of plaintiff's on the ground only that the licensing of such premises is net required by the majority of ratepayers, and adults male and female residents m the Sydenham licensing district. He wishes it understood he did not desire m any way to interfere with the discretion of the Committee, except so far as they claimed to exercise discretion on prohibition lines. No oosts were allowed, and he gave leave to appeal.
