The Minister of Lands, accompanied by Mr Samuel and Mr Smith M.H.R., have gone to Arenui to inspect the spot where - ; coal is said to have been discovered. The party then go on to Mimi, where a road has been commenced to connect with the Auckland railway. Wellington, January 6. Mr Hislop's resignation will probably take effect from January 11. The Premier left for New Plymouth this morning on private business, and will be away about a week. . No steps have yet been taken re the Federal Convention. At present it seems ' as though New Zealand will not be represented. '
