THE OBJECTIONS TO SHI H. BLAKE. WARM DISCUSSION IN MELBOURNE. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. SPEAKS. Received Nov. 16, 1 p.m. Brisbane, Nov. 16. Sir T. Mcllwraith has cabled the following objections to Sir H. Blake to Lord Knutsford (1) Blake is not known as a successful administrator of responsible government, (2) the importance of the : , colony entitles it to a Governor of approved ability and discretion ; (3) Blake's 'experience m responsible Government has been confined to one year's duty m Newfoundland; (4) His previous experience disqualifies him; (5) The disapproval of the nominee m the colony is spontaneous and general ; (6) . This disapproval is accentuated by the recent constitutional crisis. . ... ■ : . . t Melbourne, Nov. 16. A discussion took place m the Legislative Assembly last night. on a motion affirming the right of the colonies to a voice m the selection of Governors. After a. vigorous debate, the resolution was negatived. Mr Gillies, Premier, disclaimed . any intention on, , his part to ask for a voice m making such an appointment, on the ground that such a course would probably occasion complication during any political crisis. He objected to any consideration being shown to Queensland, and expressed the opinion that the sooner Victoria showed she had no sympathy for that colony, and every faith in' the Imperial selection, the better. * Adelaide, Nov. 16. The Premier cabled to Lord Knutsford, on Mpnday asking for the, name of the new Governor before the appointment was definitely made.
