Auckland, June 30.

A Maori woman named Hikouango, aged 60 years, with her boy Kaituta, were burned to death at Ohaeawai, Bay of Islands, on Tuesday last, through the whare m which they were residing catching fire. It is supposed they were sleeping when the fire broke out.

July 2.

The body of a man, apparently 28 to 30 years of age, was found at noon yesterday on the rocks near Point Besolution Battery, Parnell. There was a new bulldog revolver on the edge of the rock near, and a bullet wound m the centre of the man's forehead. The body is not identified, but is evidently that of a man engaged m manual work. £5 15s of money were m his pockets, and several other articles, but no clue to identity. The man had evidently been a few hours dead when found.

Dunedin, July 2,

■ A child at Bluespur was badly burned through its clothes catching fire. At Skipper's, John Martin was nearly burned to death m his tent. He and Edwards, his mate, procured a gallon of whiskey, and drank till they became helpless. Edwards appears to have attempted a rescue, but he was too drunk to remember what had occurred.
