Mr TOLI3 moved the second reading of. tho Animals Protection Act, 1880, Amendment Bill, tbe ohj'ict of which was to get ovei ihe difficulty m connection with tbe word "game" m the original Act.— Agreed to,. : TnE CODLIN MOTH. Mr TOLE moved the second reading e.f the Codlin Moth Act Amendment' I ill, and explained that the Bill had already pai aed the Legislative Council, and that its object was that the Government may dcclae any. part of tbo' colony to bo infected with moth. After aome, discussion, m which Mcs3rs Peacock, Hobbs; and Oimond took part, the Becond reading waa carried by 33 to 19. DEF-tNCE BILL. "^ Mr BALLANCE movod the second reading of ihe Defence Rill. It was to a large extent a consolidation measure, It dealt with the classification of thoso peraona liable to serve on the militia e.f the colony, aud also refetred to the vnltinteer cystem. The Rill further enabled the Government to call out volunteers, if necessary, for aotive service. Thia was rendered necessary owing to its being found that during tbe recent' Russian soare it was found there was no power to oall out volunteers. • The Bill also referred to Permanent Militia and Armed Constabulary bodies.— Agreed to. POLICE FORCE. Mr BALLANCE moved the second reading of tho Police Forco Bill. If carried it would enable the polico to be put on the oleotoral roll.— Agreed to. COUNTIES BILIi. The Counties Bill was reported from Committee, read a third time, and passed . Sir R. STOUT moved the second reading of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, Amendment Bill. He said the Bill was brought m to provide for increasing tho subsidy m voluntary contributions to 245, and enabled tho Treasurer "^to make advances to Boards. Mr MACARTHUR said there was no provision m the Bill for vacancies, etc., and' thrre were many necessary amendments which wero not included m this Bill. The debate was interrupted by tho 5*30 adjournment.
