Arthur Stewart, a boy, when playing football, and -while running very fast with the ball, was observed to drop down suddenly. Medical aid was obtained, bat life was extinct. The City Conncil decided that the Government be requested to consider the advisability of introducing this session a measure to deal with the licensing and periodical examination of all dairies, utensils, etc. ; that the inspection of public dairies be compulsory, and that authority be given under the Public Health Act to inspect the milk brought into the city; also all milk carts, and that for that purpose the inspector be empowered to pnrohase for analysis a sample of any milk brought into the city, and that a penalty be imposed on any! seller of milk who refuses to sell such sample. ■ | Christchurch, This Day. A Wanganui horse, called Dan, was omitted from the list of acceptances for the Canterbury Jockey Club Handicap. A petition is being started m the Ashley electoral district, asking the Hon. E. Richardson to allow himself to be nominated for that constituency. Oamabu, This Day. A prospect is on foot to start a woollen factory m Oaraaru, and a large measure of support has beeen promised to the movement which is almost certain to be successful. A man named Simmonds was yesterday committed for trial for an attempt to commit an indecent assanlt upon his own daughter, a child seven years of age. Wanoahoi, This Day. A disastrous fire broke out at 4.30 this morning at the residence of Peter Bell, draper Si John's Hill, which was burnt to the ground. A portion of the furniture was j saved. The inmates escaped with much difficulty. The cause is unknown. The building was insured m tho New Zealand for L4OOO ; the furniture is v ainsurod. The estimated loss is LI 000. There, is no clue as yet to the robbery from the Stormbird. Robberies of various binds are greatly on the increase here.
