WAIRAU ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Wairau Eoad Board was held on Tuesday, the ] fith iusfant, and there were present Messrs Ward (chair), Monrc, aud Avery. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The inward correspondence was then read. The following letters having been received : —
"From Mr A. P. Seymour, regarding the Education Board ; W. Douslin, application for Valuatorship; J. Batty, application for £10 for bridge repairs , Treasury, advising a Government grant of £141 183 4d; Chairman CountyCouncil, requiring information; Central Board of Health, asking for returns. Mr Ward, referring to the letter from the Chairman of the County Council as to the length of roads said that they had no trunk roads and what they required moab particularly were district and bye roads. They ought to have had a map of the whole County, instead of having to refer to the Survey Office continually, but the: matter had always been put off for want of funds. The road from Alabama up the plain was a main line, bub he did not think it came up to the idea of a main trunk road, and it had nev 4 er been denned what such a road really was. ■ The Secretary was then instaucted to make inquiries as to the information required and to furnish it to the best of his ability. In reference to Mr Batty's letter, it was resolved—That Mr Batty be authorised to expend a sum not exceeding £10 on the road between the Five Mile Bush, above Redwood and the Avon Saddle, under the .direction of the Inspector. It was also resolved— That the expense incurred by Mr Batty, m the removal of the tree ! across the Avon road, be paid. ' PAYMENTS. The following accounts were then passed for payment, and cheques were drawn for the respective amounts :— H. O'Leary, for repairs, £11 ; P. Rush, for new roads, £15 ; Same, for same, £1Q 16s; J. Charming, for repairs, £33 ss ; J. Barton, for new roads, £15 ; J. Leslie, for repairs, £10 ; W. Douslin, for salaries, £50; and C. Griffiths, for expenses, £310s. c The Secretary stated that there was a balance m the Bank to the credit of the Board ef £665 Bs4d. Current rates had been received to the amount of £486, and £67 4s 7d was owing for uncollected rates.. The total liabilities of the Board were, m round numbers, £250. VALLEYFIBLD EOAD. It having been stated that a fence was about to be erected on the unfencod side of the above road, ie was resolved— That the Inspector be instructed to report as to what work is necessary on the road through the Valleyfield property. . There was no other business, and the proceedings then closed. : .'...
