INFORMATION WANTED.

Sfjft,—Well might the ancient writer cry "Oh that mine enemy had written a book,” for does not the News let out the cat grandly ? What a capital addenda his article is to your report of the expedition pf the "deputation” to Wellington. Have we not a long speech'by Mr Waterhouse,

besides what he did not say—l beg the editor’s pardon, I should have said “bruited” —then we have sundry admissions by the same high functionary. But what can be meant by the folly the J\ r etvs puts into the mouth of the Premier. He admitted that “ the Government could not be influenced in any way by a verdict of the Supreme Court ; it could only, be guided by the evidence brought before the Court.” Precisely, and that is what every honest man must wish for, and the sooner the better. Then we have extracts from Mr Eyes’ letters to the Government, with brief comments upon, but no denial of his statements. The whole is brought to a close with a threat against His Honor the Superintendent because he declined to accompany the deputation or show any sympathy. Now, Sir, what I and many more wish is to read this correspondence, and so judge for ourselves. There is nothing private about it, as it is conducted by public officials in the public interests. Can you not procure copies and print them for our use ? Then we could all draw our own conclusions. I trust you will see your way to gratify our curiosity—to call it by no stronger name.— I am, &c., Sympathy. [We have taken steps for obtaining copies of all the correspondence on the subject for the purpose of publication.— Ed. M. E.]
