THE MARLBOROUGH ELECTIONS.

out-last .issue we are informed that a .prelimiiVary meeting- of M : r. : Eyes’ supporters has been held, when it was considered unnecessary to issue an address as Mr. Eyes -announced his candidature at the recent public meeting. A form of circular was adopted, requesting gentlemen to allow their names to he placed on the committee. We learn that these have since been despatched to persons in all parts of the Province, from a number of whom favorable replies have since been received. We have not heard anything relative to Mr. lied wood’s progress or movements. At Kaikoura, Mr. Joseph Wan I laid a very successful meeting, and announced himself as a candidate for Cheviot, and is received with great favor by the electors. He will most probably be returned should a contest ensue. Mr. Gibson has retired in his favor, and it is probable that Mr. Gooch will follow his wise example. Mr. Studholme has not announced his candidature as yet, and possibly will not, as the probabilities iii his favor are very small indeed, Since the a l 'Ove was in type sve have learned that Mr. Studholme does not intend to stand for Cheviot, his own district of Kaiapoi having requested hint to represent it in the new parliament. Consequently the race is likely to he between Mr. J Ward and Mr. Harry Ingles, of the result of which there cau he but little doubt.
