Sydney, September 3rd. Public meeting of Germans called for Thursday to raise war relief fund. Melbourne, Sept. 3. Since receipt of the war news. Government held several cabinet meetings, and decided to reorganise the volunteers, placing them on war footing. Three hundred at a time to be drilled fortnightly in barrack life. The workshops are also busy in putting gun carriages in order. A Royal Commission on Federation is appointed. || Government" contemplate sending a despatch boat to Galle, to bring intelligence direct, should England be invaded. Germans throughout the different Colonies are subscribing funds to relieve the families of the killed and wounded. Insurance companies raised marine risks by;2£ as war risks. Banks of different colonies raised marine risk as war risk ; also raised exchange to 2£ premium. The Governor of Victoria has not received his official despatches concerning the war. Mr. Vernon’s despatches have not arrived, and are supposed to have missed the mail. Both are expected .via California, with instructions from the.lmperial Government relative to ihe war.
