POLICE PROMPTITUDE.
To the Editor of the. Marlborough Express. Bik. — Great excitement occurred in Blenh im this week, in consequence of an effigy being hung on the flagstaff of Mr. P Lawrence’s auction room, hand-bills offering a reward being posted all over the town, how Sir, great credit is due to Mr. Inspector Emerson for the prompt manner in which he pulled down the effigy, also the scandalous bills that were posted on the house, on which was written ** £6oo—Fire, &c., &c.” J hope Sir, the Superintendent will bo officially informed of the daring deed done by Inspector Frnerson and I have no doubt he will be gazetted Commissioner orSupeiiutendent.
Where is llie Watchman that was to have been appointed by the townspeople? With three constables and a watchman, one would think it. impossible of a light night to hang an effigy on the very top of a flagstaff without being caught! Truly our police force is wonderfully efficient.; the noise made about tin's said effigy by the police is simply humbug ; let them sweep their chimneys, and rid the town of that and the real nuisances. Yours, &c., Not as Inspector. Blenheim, September 10th, 186 S.
