The Financial Statement was to have been given to-night but is postponed in consequence of the Hon. J. Hall’s illness, till next Tuesday. Mr, Fox held a meeting of his supporters ' on Wednesday evening, when twenty-nine' Members were present, being those who voted with him upon the late division on his motion, with the exception of Messrs. Armstrong and Brown. After hearing from Mr. Fox, an enunciation of his views, those present resolved unanimously to form an organised Opposition, under the name of the Constitutional party. Dr. Hector read a paper at the meeting of the Philosophical Society on Tuesday, upon the recent Tidal phenomena. He stated that there had been a convulsion of unusual magnitude to the Eastward, which caused the late Earthquake aud Tidal waves. The schooner Bifleman arrived at Dunedin this morning. She reports that the Chatham Islands had been visited by three immense waves. The settlement at Tupanga was entirely destroyed. A few; of the Natives were drowned, and considerable damage had been sustained everywhere along the coast. The Inquiry into the wreck of the s.s. Taranaki is now proceeding.
