MR JUSTICE DENNISTON.

RUTTRKAUfiNT FROM. THE BENCH. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. There was a large gathering in the Appeal Court this afternoon to take formal leave of -Mr Justice Denniston. The Chief Justice (Kir Robert Stout) said that, before next session of the court Air Justice Denniston intended to! resign, so that would probably be. his | last appearance, therefore the opportunity was taken to bid him a formal j larewVll. The Chief -Justice said he had known Air Justice Denniston since lS(ii'), and they had been close friends lor manv years. They all knew the value of'Mr Justice Dennis-ton's work as a judge, and they wished him extreme happiness in his retirement. Hon. Kir Francis Bell, on behalf of the liar, added his tribute. They had learned to know Mr .Justice Denniston as a just and upright man and judge, and they knew how patient and impartial he had been in dealing With all I matters brought before him. Kir r'rancis Hell expressed the deep regret he felt at his Honor's retirement and voiced the sincere hope of all present that he would be spared long to enjoybis leisure after a strenuous life.

Hon. T. \V. Hislop added a similar tribute. Mr Justice Denniston feeling!v thanked the speakers for their kindly words. He briefly sketched the conditions under which fhe courts labored half a century ago as compared with to-day, and referred to the great increase of work. Since he was appointed to the Bench 29 years ago he had made, many friendships in his connection of taree generations with the Bench and Bar, and though he felt keenly the pain of saying farewell judicially he hoped socially to meet those present many times yet.
