The Democratic managers and l newspapers are claiming that the returns ot the doubtful States which have not been completed will elect Dr. Wilson. The latest count shows that Dr. Wil son is loading. AMAZING OVERTURN OF VOTES. Received November 0. 11.20 a.m. VANCOUVER, Nov. 8. . If California, favors Dr. Wilson his election is assured by a. single Electoral College vote. Ail parties are nonplussed at the amazing overturn of votes when Mr Hughes’ election was conceded. EXTRAORDINARY SITUATION. DDE TO BELATED RETURNS. Received November 9. noon. NEW YORK, Nov. 8. The extraordinary situation of the election is due to the belated Western returns. All the New York morning papers, including the Democratic journals, announced! a. swinging Hughes victory and published editorials thereon. 'i'his morning the Mid-Western returns reduced Mr Hughes’ enormous lead. Although the Republicans still claim a victory, the result is dpubtful, depending largely mi California and Minnesota. Meanwhile the American papers are publishing cabled editorials from London on Mr Hughes’ victory. CERMAN-AMERICANS CHAGRINED AT CHANGE IN SITUATION. Received November 9, 1 p.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 8. Tremendous interest is being taken in the election, the Democrats and Republicans both demanding that the ballotboxes be guarded. When it was realised this morning that the election was doubtful crowds literally fought for the possession of freMi editions of the newspapers. There are many reports of tampering with the figures. Both sides are preparing to con to U the counts. The German-Amerieans are deeply chagrined at the change in the situation . THE PROHIBITION ISSUE. Received November 9, Elio p.m (Router Telegrams,) NEW YORK, ‘Nby. 8. The prohibition issue was. decided in several States. Kansas- and. Washington retain prohibition, and Michigan. •South Dakota, Nebraska and Alaska go dry. California, defeated prohibition by a substantial majority. FRENZY ON WALL STREET. Received November 9, 2.1') p.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 8. There was a frenzy on Wall Street following the confusion in the election result and the orders consequent upon the world-wide cables of Mr Hugh es’ election. Stocks early showed record advances, hut. these afterwards receded.
