£400,000 HOSPITAL OFFER.

TO " RUN " IT FOR POOR MEN. Mr Henry Ford, the motor-car manufacturer has offered to take over the Detroit General-Hospital, now in course of construction, to repay all the sub-j p6riptions already given, to complete! the work and to make the institution a poor man's hospital. He is ready to spend £400,000 initially and as much more as may be necessary to maintain tlio institution. The offer will undoubtedly be accepted. Mr Ford's action is a sequel to an incident which occurred last- January, when one of the 10,000 persons seeking wo>'k at the factory in consequence of tile great- profit-sharing scheme was drenched by a fire hose and contracted pneumonia. Tlio man could not obtain hospital accommodation when the manufacturer sought it for him. In a letter to the Hospital Board Milord condemns the proposed municipalisation hospital as a "serious mistake."
