MILK AND ICE FOR THE POOR.
A renrai'kailtle Australian scheme for pi-ending ,p oo r mothers with ivnre milk and instructing them in the cafe of infants was described by Dr ' Jeffreys Wood, medical officer of the Children's Hospital, Melbourne, to the Victoria League's Imperial Health: Conference, which was held lately .at the Imperial Institute in London.
The scheme is that of the Talbot Milk Institute, and under it the noor not only receive i.miik hut specially "fflnstructed ice chests are also loanea to them and a block of ice sufficient to last 24 hours is delivered with the milk. Nurses visit the homes, weigh the and file record*. Tho scheme is tsubsidised by the State and' the munK cipality, and the recipients pay about a quarter of the cost.
