UNIVERSITY SENATE.
PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, Jan. 2G. The University Senate to-day adopted a proposal on the lines of Professor Hunter's motion to appoint a board of four moderators for matriculation, two at least of whom shall be professors. It was decided that the first board shall consist of Professors Hight and Chilton, Messrs Hogben and W. F. Ward. It was explained in discussion that examination papers occasionally showed a lack of uniformity, some being too easy and others too difficult, and it was contended generally that a moderating board would balance the papers. The subject selected for the Haydon prize essay this year is, in effect, a question whether local navies or monetary aid or other contributions to the Imperial Navy will/be better to maintain the sea power of Britain. The Agriculture Committee reported that while of the opinion that adequate provision should be made by means of a Government research scholarship far the encouragement of research of a high standard in agriculture, it could 'not see its way to recommend that provision be maee at present for honors in agriculture and for a degree of Master of Agrjplilture. The report was adopted.
