* MR HILEY'S INTENTIONS. BY TELEGRAPH. FROM OUK SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. i Mr Hiley (the new general manager of railways), who arrived in Wellington on Friday, will 6pend this* week in becoming conversant with the work at the head office of the Railway Department. Next week he intends to'visit the South Island and with Mr Ron ay no (late general manager) will tour the railways as far south as Invercargill. The remainder of the month will he demoted to studying the lines of the North and becoming acquainted with the. details of the working of the system. Mr Hiley will take charge from November 1. after which date the familiar signature, "T. Ronayne," will disappear from the railway notices. Mr Ronayne will then retire with three months' full pay. Ho has been general manager since the Commissioners' control ceased and has seen the railway system develoo to it* present position. Mr Hiley is a man of keen perception and those who meet him are greatly impressed with his energy and Knowledge of the New Zealand railways, which he apparently has been studying carefully since his appointment.
