ENTERTAINMENTS.

BALFOUR TENNIS CLUB. Under the auspices of tho Balfour Tennis Club a concert followed by a dance was held in the Balfour Town Hall on Wednesday evening (writes a correspondent), there being a very good attendance at both functions. The concert .programme was of an especially high order, being one of the best yet presented at Balfour. The Liimsdon Glee Party, in charge of Mr S. Griffiths, gave a most pleasing hour's entertainment, which was much appreciated by the audience. Tho best local talent ava ilablo also gave its services and combined to make tho concert the success it was. At tho conclusion Mr G. E. Fowler (president of the club) expressed thanks to the public for the support accorded to the club in its endeavor to raise funds for an asphalt court, and stated that as a result tho new court would be opened free from debt. The dance that followed was a most enjoyable one, and the best of music was provided by Strang's orchestra. Mr G. Black eatered in the usual satisfactory manner.

BALL AT RIVERSDALE. Ideal weather prevailed on Friday evening (writes a correspandent), wlieii what proved -undoubtedly to bo one of the most successful functions held in the district for years took place. The occasion was the Riversdale District, JJaeholore' ball in the Drill Hall. The buildin £ waa tastefully decorated with flags and evergreens, rows of Chinese lanterns adding to the effect, while the stage was arranged to resemble a drawing-room. Visitors were present from far and near, fully 170 couples attending. The grand march was led off bv Mr N. Colquhoun and Miss Cross, and Bundle's Rand stippiigsl the music, which left nothing to I*o desired. Messrs Sanderson and Aitken made efficient M.C.'s. Supper was served in a huge marquee, the catering being in the able hands of Mr Kelleher, of Gore. The whole arrangements reflected great credit on Messrs Colquhoun and McNarry, who were mainly responsible for the success of the evening. At a suitable interval Mr S. Horrell expressed the thanks and appreciation of the visitors, and Mr Colquhoun responded.

TAPANUI SKATINC RINK. The Taptmii Skating Rink was brought to a close on Saturday evening for the present season (writes* our correspondent). The rink has been fairly well patronised throughout. The poll in connection with the late carnival resulted as follows: Ladies' class* Miss Wilson 1, Miss Eskdalo 2, and Miss Smith ;}; gentlemen: T. Mitdiell 1, T. Fleming 2, and C. Harraway 3.

ROYAL STANDARD PIGTURES. The bi-weekly change of programme of the Royal standard Picture Proprietary, which will bo screened at fcho Theatre Royal to-night includes an excellent variety of pictures. The star firm is a= Pathe colored drama entitled "TJm Forger," in which Darvillo, an elderly man, i.s engaged to Jeannie the daughter of Mr Richard, a wealthy man.
