A DISCIPLE OF NIMROD. Received September 29, 10.30 a.m. BRISBANE, Sept. 29. Baron Nicolies (a Hungarian nobleman) has arrived after a shooting trip in China. He intended to go into the interior as far as the Tibetan border but was stopped by the recent revolution. Next year lie will try again. Baron Nicolies is a noted hunter of big game and has visited every corner of tllie earth with the exception of New Zealand and South America.
COASTAL STEAMER ASHORE. Received September 29, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 20. The coastal steamer Kallatiria during a south-easterly gale went ashore at Wbolgoolga. She lias no passengers aboard and the crew is safe. The vessel may get off. SHOT IN THE CHEST. Received September 29, 10.30 a.m. HOBART. Sept. 29. , During an altercation outside an hotel on Saturday night a man named T. "Howard produced a revolver and Henry Ahemm fell shot in the cfhesit, his condition being serious. It is unknown whether the weapon exploded accidentally. Howard has been arrested. COST OF LIVING INCRF.ASE. Received September 29, 10.30 a.m. -SYDNEY, Sept. 29. (living evidence before the Wages Board a land agent stated that th& rents of workmen's cottages since 1910 had increased 20 per centum. Other witnesses stated that the price of meat for a family of five had risen 33 per cent, and groceries 20 per cent, since 1910. ROBBED ON A RAIIwAT TRAIN. Received September 29, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 20. A man named Herbert Miller was knocked senseless, gagged, nound and robbed. Four men who weirs the only other occupants in the same compartment of a railway carriage between Singleton and Muswellbrook have been arrested. TRADE ON THE PAcTfIC SLOPE. Mr Percy Hunter (who was immigration agent for New South Wales in London) recommends the establishment of strong representation of Australia on the Pacific slope to safeguard the trade already secured and to obtain a wider field.
