The death is announced of Mr C. J. Reeves, who was a member of the Representation Commissioner and an old volunteer officer (states a Dunedin Press Association telegram). Mr and Mrs Alex. Henderson, accompanied liy Miss Henderson, who have been on a tour of America, England and the Continent, returned to Core by to-day's express after an absence of eight months. Mr W. Stephenson, postmaster at Wyndham and who was formerly on the staff of the Core Post Office, has been ordennl to take a complete rest for some time with a view to effecting the cure of an indisposition in one of his eyes. Mr Stephenson's many friends will wish him a speedy recovery. Mr A. E. Fordham, also formerly of Gore, will assume the duties of postmaster at Wyndham in the meantime. A Tauranga telegram states that Rev. Rameka Haumai, native minister of the Church of England Mission to the Maoris, died of pneumonia yesterday, aged Go. Ho was educated at the Maori College, Gisborne, and ordained in 187,1 He went to Tauranga in 1900. J n his early days he took part in the Maori war on the Government side. The largest function of the kind in the district took place at Hunterville last night, when Mr P. F. Hockley, who is leaving the district, was tendered a complimentary banquet, presented with a purse of sovereigns, and Mrs Hockley with a gold watch and chain (states a Marton Press Association telegram). The gathering was a large and representative one and highly complimentary references were made to Mr Hockley's works for the Reform Party.
