NFAV ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. PER UNITED PBES3 ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, May 14. Hie Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met tonight. An appeal for the purohaso of pictures for the National Art Gallery was re-, ferred 11> the annual meeting. The Wellington Rugby Union wrote asking that, as the amount of the loan of £4OIOO had been half paid off, the committee should consider the question of reducing the rate of interest from 3 per cent, to 2£ per cent. The amount outstanding is £1950. The matter was referred to the incoming committee. j The disqualification of 12 months im-! posed on T. Rapson by the Wellington, Rugby Union was made general. j An application by E. R. Watkins for ; reinstatement was declined. i The Poverty Bay Union wrote urging' the reinstatement of players in thtft| district as a check to the growth of the Northern League game. It was well known, said the letter, that Rugby football in Hawke's Bay last season was falling back. Owing to the strides made by the League game it was reasonable to assume that a number of the smaller unions had already been approached with perhaps a prospect of an early representative match and a return game to induce them to support Northern Unionism. The letter was referred to the annual meeting.
