Sir George Reid (Australian High | : Commissioner) addressed the London ' Chamber of Commerce at a meeting held to celebrate the anniversary of Australia. He recounted the country's , pastoral, agricultural and financial pro- ; gress and quoted the statements of Mr Fisher (Prim-> Minister) and Mr Me- ' Go wen (Premier of New South 'Wales) with } - eference to peopling Australia. There was a very large assemblage, over which Lord Desborough presided. THE HOLIDAY IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Jan. 26. The Anniversary Day holiday was spoiled by incessant heavy rain. The Single Sculls Race at the Anniversary Regatta was won by T. Kemp (scr.), with S. Peai'ce (Sosec. behind scr.) second and Fogwell (40sec. behind scr.) third. The Naval Brigade and the Fire Brigade crews annexed the Service Whalers' races. All the other sports, including the Randwiek races and an inter-State cricket match, were postponed.
