AN EDUCATION QUESTION.
PER TOTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, May 21. The Standing Committee of the Secondary Schools Association waited on the Minister for Education (Hon. G. Fowlds) to-day to bring under his notice the question of representation of secondary _ schools on the University Senate' with a view to securing cooperation between the parties in the matter of examinations. The question arose at the late Secondary Schools Conference.
It was pointed out by the deputation that the University scheme, especially the science and chemistry examinations, was much behind the times. They desired to make matriculation continuous for free place examinations. The Minister in a sympathetic reply said that while he was not quite able to say whether the matter was of sufficient urgency as to demand special legislation he believed that it would be in the best interests of education and would strengthen tho Senate if a representative in close touch with the •secondary schools were appointed. If any amendment were made in the University Act he would give his assistance
