THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

WAIMUMU FACTORY RETURNS. The Waimumu Co-operative Dairy factory Company, Ltd., has experienced an excellent season for the first vear as will be seen from the figures below, and the directors have every reason to be highly pleased with the result of their efforts to establish such an important industry in the locality. The first part of the season was very suitable for dairying purposes, but during the summer months rather much heat was experienced, and consequently feed got a little scarce. Nevertheless a •good start has been made. When the factory was first opened about eight suppliers delivered milk but very shortly this number was increased to a dozen, who have continued to supply throughout the season. So far 59,722 gallons of milk have been received, or an average of about 340 gallons per day. This has yielded 27,3271!) of butter-fat, from which 29 tons of cheese have been made. The suppliers have been paid at the rate of lOd per lb for butter-fat, and have received £ll3B 12s 6d.

' The factory will shortly be closed for the winter, but will recommence operations on October 1.
