The caretaker, thinking the man was insensible, ran to the front door of tin; shop and was just in the act ol crawling through the broken panel by which the burglar had entered wdieii two policemen saw him emerging and i|iiite naturally took bun for a burglar. They seized him and tried 10 drag liini through the hole. The real burglar, however, having partially recovered his senses, ran to-the door, and taking tinman by the feet, and tried to pull him back into the house. A fierce tug of war followed, until the burglar, again overcojne by the combined ell'oets of the wine and the ammonia, dropped his end of tin- caretaker, and the police pulled liini out. Explanations followed, and tin- burglar was arrested.
