BURGLAR'S TUG-OF-WAR.

A burglar wltu broke into a chemist's shop near the Opera House, Paris, early in the morning was the victim ol a curious misadventure, which ended in his capture by the police alter a tug-ol-war ill which ail innocent man took the place of the usual rope. The burglar on entering the chemist's .shop tound two bottles of wine ami forgetting his mission he sat down and thoroughly enjoyed their contents, liis unsteady anil noisy movements aroused the caretaker, who came downstairs lightly-clad. In the .struggle that followed a large bottle of ammonia wan upset, the contents falling noon the burglar, who. being almost sulfocatcd. sank upon the floor. The caretaker, thinking the man was insensible, ran to the front door of tin; shop and was just in the act ol crawling through the broken panel by which the burglar had entered wdieii two policemen saw him emerging and i|iiite naturally took bun for a burglar. They seized him and tried 10 drag liini through the hole. The real burglar, however, having partially recovered his senses, ran to-the door, and taking tinman by the feet, and tried to pull him back into the house. A fierce tug of war followed, until the burglar, again overcojne by the combined ell'oets of the wine and the ammonia, dropped his end of tin- caretaker, and the police pulled liini out. Explanations followed, and tin- burglar was arrested.
