Receivo March 15, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, March 14. _ A"large gathering of shipowners at Glasgow overwhelmingly rejected Mr McCarthy's international union scheme. A recent cablegram stated that the northern shipowners at a meeting at Newcastle adopted the principle of an international uniou scheme. Messages of support were received from all pans of the United Kingdom and abond from persons and firms representing a capital of fifty million sterling. Tho scheme is also welcomed with enthusiasm in Japan. It, was previously cabled that North-east Coast shipowners had determined to regulato tho supply of tonnage to tho demand—becauso of the quantity of idle shipping—and had drafted a tentative scheme to lay up all tonnage for certain periods annually. Tho cablegram added: "The scheme has been well received at Cardiff. Liverpool and other places, though it- has not evoked much enthusiasm on tho Clyde."
