The Chairman, and Messrs Stevenson, •Stunton, Earlc, Campbell, Scott, alio jilacK each made a few rcniurks expressive of the regret felt by local residents at the departure of their gucsis, and Mr Sutherland feelingly responded on his o\wi and Mrs Lutherlands behalf. The toast of "The Chairman" was afterwards honored. Messrs Black and Aitken (recitations). 11. .bane, f. Barclay, it. Campbell, -J . Tuylcs. Black and Knowles (songs) contributed to the harmony of an exceedingly pleasant evening and a very successful function, and the proceedings closed shortly after midnight with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Last evening the boarders at the Criterion ilotel, Wore, entertained tile proprietress, Mrs R. Walker, to a farewell social prior to the departure oi herself and family for Lawrence. Mr \\. Edwards presided, and, in the course of the evening, on behalf of those assembled, presented Mrs Walker with a handsome saddle-bag arm-chair "and tapestry hearth-rug. Mr Edwards claimed that he. expressed the feelings oi all the boarders when lie said that Mrs Walker was an ideal hostess, ami one who ever did her utmost to secure the comfort and convenience of those who sojourned beneath her roof. In this she was ably assisted by various members of her family. Mr P. Barnes replied on liehalf of the recipient, thanking the boarders for their invariable, kindness and courtesy towards her. Mrs Walker's health and various other' toasts were drunk, and numerous songs given by members of the company.
