TAPANUI JOTTINGS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) In consequence of the fine weather the farmers are pushing along with thoir work, and sowing (especially of wheat) will soon be general. On Saturday week the Tapanui Poultry Association's Show was held, and proved the most successful one for many years, exhibits being sent from Port Chalmers, Lawrence, and other ontside places. The efforts of the ladies of All Saints Church to raise money wherewith to purohase a new organ have at lust been crowned with such success that they have been enabled to present a very handsome organ to the church, and Miss Quin (organist) treated the congregation to some excellent music on the new instrument at the service conducted by the ■Rev. A. R. D. TosswiU on Sunday, the 12th inst. I believe Mr TosswiU has sent in his resignation to the Bishop, and I have heard many expressions of regret at his severing his connection with the parish. I think the fever scare here has now subsided. A mountain has been made out of a molehill, as there have been only two or three mild cases of scarlet fever, and the pationts are now convalescent. Mr James Sim, member of the Otago Education Board, and also of the -Tuapeka Council, was tendered a farewell sooial at the Crookston schoolhouse by a number of his friends prior to his departure from the district. Mr Sim has taken up his residence in Tapanui. Messrs J. B. McAlister and Son, carpenters builders are still enlarging their already very commodious promises. The latest improvement consists of an upper storey, intended, I believe, for a furniture and furnishing show room. This should supply a long-felt want, as hitherto there bas been nothing of the kind in the town.
