GORE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Monday, August 20. The Council met at the usual hour. Present — The Mayor(Mr J. Ballintii.e) and Councillors Copland, McFarlane, Sherborne, Pope, and Day. Beplies to the Council's circular re the Municipal Bill were received from the Auckland and Thames Borough Councils. Kerr and Coutts asked permission to erect a signboard over the footpath in Main street. — Granted on the usual conditions. The National Mortgage* and Agency Co. forwarded an account of £4 12s in conneotion with the sale of Municipal leases. — Passed for payment. REPORTS. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that his attention had been drawn to a leak in Mr Collins cellar at the Southland Hotel, slating that Mr Collins was of opinion thai the sewer was stopped up and caused the leakage. Tbat could not be ascertained without opening up the sewer. — Sewer to be opened up to locate the trouble. - The Works Committee reported (1) that it had no recommendation to make in the meantime regarding Mrs Carmody's application for a road in East Gore ; (2) recommended that the Inspector attend to the drain complained of by Mr P. Daly ; (3) that the Inspector extend the drain asked for by Mr A. Donaldson ; (4) re Mr Holland's" complaint of sections being flooded, reported that a ditch had been cut from the Main road east along Denton street, and recommended (a) that the engineer report whether there is any necessity for this ditch and on the matter generally, and (b) that the railway department be requested to give a orossing for foot-passengers and cattle over the line at Denton street to give Mr Holland access to his property on East side of the line ; (5)- that a man be put on to clean out the ditch complained of by Mr McAllister ; (G) that the Inspector see the footpath asked for by Mrs Brown attended to; (7) tbat the footpath asked for. by Mr Bowler bo left in the hands of the Mayor to carry out ; (8) that a sufficient footpath (asked for by Mrs Boyd) be made under the supervision of the Inspector; (9) that the Education Board be asked to carry out the drainage from East Gore school urinals to the Waikaka river as recommended by the Board's Inspector, and that the Borough pay a share of the cost of the drain from the school boundary to the river at 30s per chain.— Adopted, on on the motion of Councillors McFarln.no and Day. . The Saleyards Committee recommended that the Inspector be authorised to repair those portions of the yard requiring it and tbat tar be procured and used where necessary. — Adopted. A notice of motion by Councillor Baker regarding'the Town Hall additionsrand propositions by Councillors Day and Copland regarding the same matter were held over for consideration at next meeting. The Council then went into committee to consider tenders for making concrete pipes, and on resuming reported that F.-Fraser's tender was accepted as follows: — 9in pipes, 7Jd per foot ; 15in, Is 5d per foot ; 18in, Is 18d per foot.
