MOTOR CARS IN PARIS.

As hosts of complaints at the scandalous rate at which many of the motor cars are run in Paris have been raised, the Prefect has enjoined the police to draw up reports against persons proceeding at the speed of more than twelve kilometres an hour within the boundaries of the fortifications. The agents of the law, however, aver that they are powerless to stop most of the vehicles, which dash away with rather increased rapidity than otherwise when they hail the occupants; so, in all likelihood, all the motor cars will soon be compelled to carry a number, which at least may be rioted down. One of the protests just sent in to the Prefecture is, says the London ' Daily Telegraph' correspondent, worth mentioning. It emanates from M. Hugues Le Rouy, a well-known literary man, who was nearly killed with his wife and children at the bottom of the Rue de Courcelles by an automobile, which was rushing on at a terrific rate. " I am," he says, " one of those who consider that there is no security in the streets of Paris. And as your agents declare that they are powerless, I have the honor to warn you that from to-day I walk out with a revolver in my pocket, and that I shall fire at the first mad dog •which, mounted on a motor car or on a petroleum tricycle, takes to flight after having nearly crushed my family or myself."
