The weather is now more favorable, • and farmers are pushing on with all speed, getting their turnip ground in i • readiness, a large area of which will be sown. j Mr Gladstone Bobinson is almost j finished with his shearing, and others are making a start. Politics form the all-absorbing topic of the hour. All of the candidates have been heard at the 'Koi, and have been well received by the electors, and the usual votes of thanks were accorded to them. The question now is, who is to be elected. I refrain from passing an opinion on the different candidates. I mentioned in my letter a month ago that Mr Thomson was the best man, and am still of that opinion, but Friday, the 4th, will settle tho whole j business. Cricket is all the go in the 'Koi just now. Oq Saturday week the Tapanui and Waikoikoi school Cricket Clubs played their opening match on the latter's ' ground, 'Koi winning by on innings and 35 runs. The Pukerau Club played their return match against the 'Koi to-day, and were defeated. The ladies with their usual liberality, provided edibles on each occasion. Mr A. Reid has again secured the carriage of the 'Koi mail for the next three years. The Rev. Mr Begg is to give a lecture on Tuesday, the Ist inst., iv aid of the school funds. Miss S. Lavander has started dressmaking at the 'Koi, and has already a number of pupils. Roll up young ladies and learn the Columbia fitter system.
