MR J. EDIE AT WAIKOIKOI.

Mr John Edie addressed the electors of Waikoikoi on Monday evening. The at- ' tendance was good, and. Mr B. Simmers occupied the chair. Mr Edie's speech was practically a repetitionof his Knapdale address, which has already appeared in your columns. He, was loud in his praises of the Premier and John McKenzie, a good part of his speech being taken up in praising their good deeds. He instanced Cheviot as turffing out a great : success, carefully evading any reference to • the Pomahaka Estate. Captain Russell re-, ceived a great deal of abuse, and Mr Edie boldly stated that the Opposition was to -■ blame for the recent increase in the country' 3 debt. In conclusion, the candidate gave a glowing account of the resources and wealth of the colony, and urged his hearers to \ return honest men. He was closely^ques-- ' '■'■ tioned after, his speech, and his answers . "■'■ were generally considered satisfactory. On ". the motion of Mr Milne, seconded by Mr ■ Sheed, a vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Edie, a vote of confidence by Mr Edgar finding no seconder. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. — Own Correspondent.
