EAST GORE SCHOOL.
The following is the report of the East Gere School Committee for 1894 5 to be submitted at the meeting of householders on Monday next :— The committee have met 11 times and the members have attended as follows :— Mr Forbes 11, Mr Bust 11, Rev, Asher 10, Mr M'Gibbon 8, Mr MvKinnon 6, Mr Aitken 5 and Mr Dun 31 For a considerable part of the year Mr Duu was laid aside by illness, which, no doubt, was the cause of his not attending a larger number of meetings. There has been no change in the staff during the year, and the annual examination, which took place last October, shows that the Bchool still keeps up its high percentage of passes. The committee congratulate the staff on their continued success. The number of children on the roll at the end of March was 216, and the average attendance has been close up to the number (.viz., 180) required to procure an assistant master. A concert to»k plane on the 14th December and was very successful. Th*nkß are due to the master (Mr Gilchrisfc) and Mr Brett, who took the real work off the shoulders of the committee by providing the programme, During the year the committee have had erected a wash house at the master's residence, and also a cow shed and dividing fence through part of the glebe to enable the master to keep a cow, which he no doubt will find a considerable benefit, The school will require to be painted before long. The committee would suggest to the incoming committee that they apply to the Board to have the matter attended to. The committee commenced the year with a credit balance of £3 0s Bd, and although works have been carried out, as before mentioned, the year closes with £3 19a 5d on the right side of the ledger.
