KNAPDALE ROAD BOARD.
At a special meeting, held on Tuesday at, the Chatton Hotel, there were present — Messrs McQueen (in the chair), Kennedy. Key, White, Gilchrist, McPnail, and Elder. Tenders were dealt with as follows : —Contract No. 95, Symes' road, gravel at 2* 9d per yard and table drain cleaning at Is 6d per chain : John Hoffman. — Accepted. Contract No. 115, east of Waikaka, gravelling: J Bucholz, L 22 1 6s.— Accepted. Cons tract No. 117, Otama Flat., road, formation : John Johnston, L 39 la 4d. —Accepted. Cmtract No. 118, McG-illvary's road, gravelling: W S Cooper, L2l 84. — Accepted. Contract No. 119, Cronli;'s road, fgraveUing : John Johnston, L 9 8« 5J. — Accepted. The tender for contract No. 113, Knapdale low road, gravelling, being much above the estimate, was declined, and fresh tenders were ordered to be called for it, and for contracts 114, gravelling at Gold Crcrk, and 116, gravelling at France's aud Nichol's road, for which there wag no tender. No tenders, also, were submitted for contracts No. 120 and 121, works at Waikaka, and it was decided to call fresh tenders for them and for contracts No* 122 and 123, work near Waikaka township and Mcßain's road, (specifications of which were now : approved), and to submit same to members of subdivisions interested to be dealt with. Correspondence was dealt with as under. From Mr Limb, explaining that he could not attend the meeting,- and ' suggesting that contract No. 120, iv
no tender should re dealt with by members of subdivision. — Received. The clerk submitted copy of letter sent by him to the Southlaud County Council asking whether that portion of the road known as the old Lake road, running from ; Waikaka township towards Clutha County, was a County or district road. The .answer to the;' question wa i Hi- f , rm of a memo; by the County clerk as follows :-^'S A' ! County road gazetted 28'h February' 1 1879." ! The clerk also submitted a report op Collins road, and specified the work which was required there, also stating oost thereof — Resolved, that LIO be spent where most needful. -The following accounts were passed for piyrnent :— J Murdoch, L 3 12s 2dl;J Nelson (plan of road deviation), L 2 10a ; — Collins, 14s • Barclay and Co., L 6 7s 6d. The matter of road closing through the sections of Mr Watt atid others was held over till next general meeting for further information. - It was agreed on the motion of Mr Key that the Inspector should be authorised to spend the L 5 for main- ( tenance gravel allocated to the Otama division. The Inspector was authorised to treat with contractors at present at work for the supply of maintenance gravel to other subdivisions" as "per allocation. The meeting then adjourned, members being reminded by the clerk that at the next regular meeting but one' four members would require to be balloted out, and that a full attendance was therefore desirable.
