WYNDHAM TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday evening last, and attended by Commissioners Raymond (in the chair), Ive, Paull, R*nkin, and Traynor, . The Chairman reported the Works Committee had viewed the approaches to Mr Munro's lignite reserve, and found that a formation would have to be made over a swamp. Before going into the matter further they judged it advisable to write to the Land Board aa to the terms of his lease. As there was some prospect of getting the pit opened they suggested that the matter should be left in their hands to make an angementa. —Agreed to. The Chairman also reported that an offer of 15s had been received for the lease of the Town Hall reserve, if the Board woftld fence it. The cost of fencing, etc., was considered, and on | Messrs Paull and Ive's motion it whs decided to empower the Works Committee to lease the section at the price, and call tenders for the necessary ; fencing. It was decided to summon at once, for all unpaid coach and carters' ■, licenses. j The Crown Lands Department wrote! forwarding particulars of licenses of lignite reserves asked for. — It was decided to write to the Department asking for refund of Geange's rent, and to write E- Munto intimating the Wyndham Town Board was the authority to which to pay rents. T. S. Miller wrote asking for the position of surveyor to the Board, rendered vacant through the resignation of Mr Prentice. His terms were similar to Mr Prentice's.— O a the! motion of Messrs Ive and Traynor Mr | Miller's application was accepted. It was decided that in future none but approved crossings should be allowed from roads to footpaths, and ' that anyone found crossing drays over open drains or footpaths without proper crossings being provided should be proceeded against. ' : Resolved, that all dog taxes not paid within a month be sued for. The Works Committee reported the [ surfaceman had cleaned out the drain in Cardigan road, and was now! cleaning the outfall drain at Redan street. j The Board then went into committee to consider tenders for contract No. 26, work in Scutari street, and on ; resuming it transpired that the tender of James and Charles Muir, of Wyndham, in the sum of L 43 10s had been accepted for the work. The fact that a ratepayer had removed material from the street on to his premises was animadverted on, but nothing was done further than mentioning that in future anyone guilty of removing material would be proses cuted. A subcommittee^consisting of Messrs Raymond, Paull, and R*nkin was ,ap- ; pointed to compare the Wyndham Town Board byelaws with the Gore Borough Council's, And to revise them, and report at a special meeting to" be held in a week. The accounts of J. L. Evans (assessment work), L 77b ; Town Clerk's salary, L 5 ; J. Mcßride, L 9 16s 9i; and Mataura Ensign, LI 13s sd, were passed for payment. An account from S. Solomon, solicitor, Dunedin,j LIO 17s 3d, was held over, the arrangement between the Board and, Mr Solomon being that he should carry a case through for & certain sum. The case has not yet been decided. The Board then adjourned.
