Auckland, Dec 29
The woman O’Connell, arrested on a charge of attempted arson at Franklin Road last night, was brought before the Police Court and remanded for a week, bail being refused. A series of robberies have bocn reported to the police as having taken place last . night in the harbor. The yachts Rita 1 and Maritana wore looted and a of silver plate was stolen from the latter, whilst tho yacht Malua is missing, and it ” is believed to have been taken by the robbers. A party have gone out to search for the latter vessel. Wellington, Dec 29George Brown, aged about eight years, son of Mr Samuel Brown, Mayor of Wellington, was killed this afternoon. He was riding in a cart opposite his father’s •esidenoo, when the horse backed over a steep cutting, the poor lad receiving such injuries that death resulted in a few minutes. The driver of the cart escaped with a few bruises. Mr and Mrs Brown are at present absent in tho South, having gone down yesterday with the iutontion of ascending Mount Cook.
