A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.
A terrible tragedy was enacted at J Nowlon (N.S.W.) on November 16, , when Arthur Blythe, teacher of mathematics at Newton College, \ murdered hisi wife by cutting her 1 throa’, and afterwards committed j suicide. The pair resided in Wei- ] lington-street, and spent the evening*at the house of Mrs Gould, Mrs Blyth’s mother, who lived next 1 door. They left together, apparently in good spirits, and on the best ( of terms. Shortly after three a.m., 1 Mrs Gould heard a slight noise next f door, as of someone falling and on ( going downstairs met her unfortunate'daughter, who rushed into the house bleeding profusely from a j terrible gash in her throat, and im- c mediately fell down and expired. On entering Blyth’s house his dead c body was found at the font of the } stairs, with his throat cut from ear 1 to car. and a blood stained razor was found close to tho body. Naturally the allair causod intense ex--cilement. Mrs Blythe was a native | of Sydney,22 years of age, and had \ been married six years. J t is stated t that the pair had of late 1 lived unhappily together, that tho . husband had frequently ilitreated i his wife, and on more than ono i occasion had threatened to take her rlife It is said the death of his i eldest son. a child five years of age, ■ which happened some time ago, had preyed on the father’s mind, and subsequent to the birth of the second child, fifteen months ago, he . exhibited symptoms of great mental i depression, and complained of pain i in the head The scene in the i house was ghastly in the extreme. Ely 111 was found in his night shirt, which \v;D deluged with blood, as was also his body, whilst Mrs Llyth was in a similar state. Her long hair, which hung down to her waist, was dotted with gore.
