Major Baillio, M.L.C. RESIGNA’ lONS. Mr Lucas was authorised to appoint, a pupil teacher to take the place of Miss Wrigloy, v ho had resigned her position in the Borough sclioos. The resignation of Miss Ktliel Harris, pupil teacher at the Wftit' hi school, was also received. II WKLOCK. Resolved -That the Board is not in a position at present to erect a lean-to and paint the Havelock school, owing to the Department prohibiting expenditure out of the building grant for such purposes. OKARAMIO. A similar reply was made to an sppli cation from the Okanimio School Committee for repairs to the teacher’s residence. Major JJaillie wished it to be understood by the pub'io that the Boaul would he willing to do these and similar works hail not the Government made the prohibition referred to. The matter was, however, again under the eonsideiation of the Department, whoso decision would be known shortly. Dlit-T CREEK, Petition from fourteen residents of the Wnkamarina asking to have the Deep Creek school re-opened. Resolved—That the Secretary take steps to ascertain whether a Committee was elected for Deep Creek, and if not to appoint a day for tho election. GROVETOWN. Letter from tho toucher asking that a room should be added fo the residence and that other repairs be executed. Resolved —That this matter, as well as the repairs required to the schoolhouse. bo deferred. SI’ItIN GLANDS. Letter from the Chairman of the Borough Schools enclosing letter from the Chairman of the Springlands School Committee requesting that certain fences, etc, not included in the contract bo erected. Resolved—That the work bo done. ENDEAVOUR INLET, Petition from a number of residents of Endeavour Inlet, asking for a school and teacher. The number of children who would attend such school would be about thirty. The question was raised as to whether the antimony mine would be sufficiently permanent to warrant the building of a school. The Secretary stated that if none of the works already promised were carried out the Board would have L4OO left out of the building funds Proposed by Mr E. T. Conolly, and seconded by Mr Hutcheson, That a public meeting tie called in accordance with clause GO, to elect a committee, and ! fix the boundaries of a separate school district.—Carried. printing and advertising. The tenders of tho Times for printing and advertising were accepted. ACCOUNTS, : The following accounts were passed for payment:—Committees’ payment for hst quarter: Scholarship supervising, All2 , 12s, Springlaud’s rent, £3 17s ; Jones, £5 ; Renfrew, £o ; Penney and Co, £3 ss ; Government storekeeper, £5. . education reserves, Mr Lambert moved—That steps be taken to obtain additional reserves for educational purposes, and that a committee consisting of Messrs Paul, Conolly, Seymour, and the mover, be appointed to consider the matter, and report to the I next meeting. Captain Baillie seconded the motion, which was carried. lIOUOUGII. SCHOOLS. Unsolved—That the question of the appointmen and status of a mistress for the girls’ school be further postponed.
