Russia lias by a secret design, obtained one of the Brennam torpedoes,and her naval and military authorities are now busily engaged in making experiments with the weapon off the naval station of Cronstadt. November 11. The Now Soutli Wales timber and mineral exhibits, and those private exhibits for the return of which to Sydney orders have not been received, will be reserved for the Imperial Institute, pending directions a 3to their disposal. The wool exhibits have been sold, and half of the private exhibits are to be returned. Collins, Ifowkor and Co., wine and spirit merchants, are endeavoring to start a company with a capital of L 150,000 for the purchase of the Australian vintages, the maturing of the wine to be done in London. One third of the capital has been reserved for subscription in t}]e colonies. Eight hundred pounds worth of New South Wales wines have been sold in glasses at the Exhibition, and L2OO worth in hollas, but none of it in bulk. November 12. The statement that rho Claimant had been arrested in New York for personation turns out to be incorrect. Bishop Moorhouse is strongly opposing free education. November 13. The Duke of Cambridge and Earl Granville had an interview with Lord Randolph Churchill to-day, asking for a grant c £2500 for art representations at the Jubilee Exhibition. Lord Randolph Churchill requested them to set forth their views in writing, and stated that probably a smaller amount thqn that requested would be given.
