At the Ministerial Banquet in : he Guildhall last night, Lord Salisbury discussed at some length the political situation. Referring to affairs in Ireland the Premier declared that it was the du f y of H°r Majesty’s Government to execute the mandate of the elec ors that tho integrity of the Empire should bo preserved, and that tho law should lie euforced in Ireland. With regard to the British occupation of Egypt, Lord Salisbury stated that the time for the withdrawal of the British troops would dep *nd on th 0 conclusion of this task. It woulj he necessary to secure the country from Foreign aggression, and preserve its independence of external control. He condemned the conspiracy which had resulted in the dethronement of Prince Alexander, of Bulgaria, and the efforts which had been made by Russia to save the plotters from punishment., Europe, he declared, observed with regret the Russian trespass on the rights of the Bulgarians. Eng’aml would not be backward in recog* nising her duty should tho Great Powers decide to vindicate the ex* ecution of the Treaty of Berlin. Lord Salisbury stated that the policy of Austria with reference to affairs in the Balkan Peninsula would largely influence the policy of tho British Government He expressed his belief that peace would be maintained, but it would bo necessary for England to defend her interests whenever they wore attacked.
